hi Jeff

re world's media attention on the lockdown in Shanghai with adjectives like "severe", "cruel", "draconian", etc. (1) Are they concerned about the loss of freedom of the locals or the whining expats? (2) would it be construed as China once again not in complying with their rules-based international order since everyone else are living with the virus? (3) or is it plain envy?

Hi KS, I know all too well about racist expats in China and wrote a good piece about it,

Thanks your reply - faster than a 24hr nucleic-acid test result!

Good piece though about Aretha Franklin back in Nov 2017 - to be fair, there are decent westerners inside china who does understand the local nuances objectively. I am all for criticism where it is due - the system is not perfect.

I see you included the translated version of Mr 林多良 poem (if only your blog permits attachment, so that i can post the original chinese PDF version)

PLUG : Finished both volumes (Rising was slower due the numerous interfaces between text and links) just in time for the start of Special Military Operations.

(I would recommend a classic book "Chinese Characteristics" by Arthur Henderson Smith (ISBN 978-7-5447-4667-0), an early analytical insight into the chinese persona of the 1920s, which may not apply in today's china, but its interesting to know then, available on-line at TaoBao)

Has China informed their citizens of these biowarfare attacks, do they understand?

No, as they do not want the masses to demand retribution, as that only leaves a hot war.
