Jeff, PROPAGANDA's WAR: More 'posturing' by the US in the Far-East region where US lacks national support. Japan & South-Korea are captured supporters of the US. Its interesting how the so-called Victors in WW2 such as England, US & Canada or the oligarchs who control us, have been able to capture whole national infrastructures such as in Japan, South-Korea, Germany, Austria, Italy & the other 6 main AXIS countries. As I meet people from these countries, most are still cowed by western violent economic, political & military control & maybe half know the victor indoctrination-dominance is wrong & abusive of their intelligence, labours & freedoms. So while the governments & institutions of western captured nations are manipulable, people themselves are very cynical, although completely silenced by Finance, Media, Religion, Education, Military-Industrial, Legislative-Judicial Censorship.
Talking REFERENDUM in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau etc., many have made the historical criticism of Gorbachev's 'Perestroika' (Russian 'Rebuilding, Reform') in the Soviet Union. Gorbachev should have insisted on parallel referenda in the states, provinces & regions of USA, Britain, Canada, Australia, France etc & all of our economic colonies, with an international set of rules to ensure fair, equal-resources in regional debate-dialogues. Several US States for example have popular majorities for sovereignty & even succession. Let's get sovereignty referendum going within the empire, whenever these are targeted abroad!
I voted in the QUBEC (province) REFERENDUM on Sovereignty Association, YES in 1980 & NO in 1995. In 1980, I was immersed & working among Quebec community economy activists as well impressed by Quebec Premier Rene Levesque's advocacy for sovereignty. By 1995, I realize how colonial & racist the Quebec population is, captured by its own false colonial narratives, as well as against its First Nations, Muslim, English & other minorities. Referendum like Campaign-finance & media captured 's'Elections are not good indications of popular will. The 'Community' (L 'com' = 'together' + 'munus' = 'gift-or-service') movement was captured by oligarchy, but its strivings for Participatory-Economic-Democracy are still valuable. https://sites.google.com/site/indigenecommunity/relational-economy/8-economic-democracy
CHINA's previous leadership in ECONOMIC-DEMOCRACY got the whole world re-thinking our concepts of 'democracy' (Greek 'power-of-the-people') from the ancient perspectives of all our 'indigenous' (Latin 'self-generating') ancestors. However we were mislead down the false path of 'co-operatives' ('co' = 'together' + 'operatives' ='stakeholders'), which don't account for, recognize & empower the diverse contributions of all stakeholders. One can follow this false co-op lineage from ~1917 & Jacob Schiff, leader of the New-York Stock-Exchange, who financed Lev Davidovich Bronstein (Trotsky) & his colleague Germany's Warburg who financed Lenin, violently imposing false co-ops on Russia, adopted by Stalin & imposed through Mao Tse Tung on China. Karl-Marx & Friedrick Engels' 'Das Kapital was really an early analysis on humanity's once worldwide 'indigenous Participatory Accounting methods. https://sites.google.com/site/indigenecommunity/relational-economy/participatory-accounting
Except for Huawei as a Multistakeholder Participatory ('part' = 'share') progressive-ownership corporation, I'm surprised that China has not evolved its economic thinking past the failure of its false 'co-operatives'. Economic Engines which everyone can enact in their own Multihome-Dwelling-Complexes (eg. apartment, townhouse & village) & workplaces. Huawei's Information Technology example, are extremely important 'backdrop' to social & political transformation, which people around the world should be actively considering as options in self-empowerment beyond the capture we have been under. https://sites.google.com/site/indigenecommunity/structure/7-participatory-companies
