Note before starting: Sam reached out to me and I was immediately interested in knowing more, since there are not many Americans who decide to pull up stakes and move to Russia. He sent me photos of him and his wife and talked on the phone. We planned a video interview, but on second thought he prefers to stay anonymous. Thus, over a number of days Sam answered my questions via WhatsApp.

I do not agree with everything Sam says, but I never censor or edit my guests. His life story and points of view are enthralling and definitely worth reading. They broke the mold when they made Sam!
